Course Description

The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Emergency Preparedness & Response equips employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to maintain a safe workplace and respond effectively during emergencies. The course covers hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work practices, permit-to-work systems, PPE usage, incident and near-miss reporting, emergency response planning, evacuation procedures, fire safety, first aid basics, and mock drills. By completing this course, learners will understand their responsibilities in preventing workplace incidents, complying with safety requirements, and contributing to a strong culture of health, safety, and emergency preparedness.

Course Outcomes

• Understand the importance of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) in creating a safe workplace.
• Identify common workplace hazards and conduct basic Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
• Apply safe work practices, including Permit-to-Work (PTW), housekeeping, and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Select, use, and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Report hazards, incidents, and near-misses through the correct reporting process.
• Understand the purpose and key components of an Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan (EPRP).
• Follow emergency communication, evacuation, and assembly procedures during workplace emergencies.
• Recognize fire hazards, understand fire classifications, and use the PASS technique for fire extinguishers.
• Apply basic first-aid principles and understand the objectives of workplace mock drills.
